has put together a picture that has drama, conviction and suspense. ....
He has got an extraordinary feeling of the actuality of being aboard a
ship, the creeping terror of a disaster, the agony of a great vessel's
death. And in all of his performers, especially Miss [Dorothy] Malone,
he has got a moving reflection of frenzy, futility and fear. George Sanders
is good as the captain who struggles bravely and calmly to maintain hope,
Mr. [Woody] Strode is fine as a valiant oiler and Mr. [Edmond] O'Brien
strikes fire as an engineer. Mr. [Robert] Stack is credible as the husband
and little Miss [Tammy] Marihugh does very well for a youngster who
